Ever since the Scottish National Party (SNP) gained control of the Scottish Parliament there has been an ongoing agenda to try and force through independence for Scotland, but will it ever happen? Do the majority of Scottish people actually want it?
The SNP have for many years been a thorn in the side of the English Parliament, using each and every chance to bicker and complain about funding, claiming that Scotland was a forgotten nation when in fact it is far from forgotten. Scotland is actually a very important part of the Union and while we see the banter between the Scottish and the English, they have been part of the UK for hundreds of years. So what has changed?
Since the SNP gained the upper hand in the Scottish Parliament they have used ever trick in the book to try and ridicule the English politicians. They are looking to replace council tax with a local income tax, but still want the hundreds of millions of pounds they currently get for “council tax” from the English Parliament. They want to keep all of the income from North Sea oil, yet they also want to keep their massive income per head from the Barnett formulae. They offer free services for many Scottish people, yet forget that it is the English tax income which pays for these.
The SNP are a party who want their cake and want to eat it, they want to alienate the English and then claim as much money as possible, they are a party that recently changed the proposed ballot for Independence to include a third question in order to try and get a majority by the back door.
What a shame it would be if a party who have only been in control of the Scottish Parliament for a couple of years were to ruin the “Union” which has lasted hundreds of years. Make no mistake, if Scotland decides to go it alone there will be no invite back into the Union at a later date – that is one more safety net which would disappear forever!
