Types of hooks and their utility
There are many types of hooks available such as Long shank hook, Circle hook pattern, Ganging hook, and Octopus hook and Southern and tuna hook. Long shank hook has a kerbed parabolic bend and meant for shallow bite with a modified hollow point or curved-in-point. These are meant for fast-biting fish and generally the kids can easily handle them.
The octopus hook is the most common type of hook used by fishermen venturing on bass fishing. The shape of this hook is octopus-like with a turned up tapered eye. This hook will easily penetrate deep throat of fishes with wide open mouth due to the curved-in point. The tip is extremely sharp and this type of hook is used to catch fishes like snappers.
Ganging hook has an open eye which is used to combine more than one ganging hooks to structure a ganged set according to the size of the bait. Garfish can be easily caught with ganging hook as it is tough and will be in shape even when smashed against rocky terrains. Circle hook patterns have an additional strong forged shaft with squared-off or circular bend. It has a knife edge point which is drawn towards the rod. Southern and tuna hook is for heavy weight fishes which can be found on bass fishing. The artificial heavy rod is attached to a brazed ring and this type of hook when catches some fish, then it will be difficult for the fish to dislodge. Game fishers use this hook to catch cranky fishes.
One of the important things to remember when you are bass fishing is that the fishes are opportunistic eaters. Even in worst conditions, a cranky fish will try to impale himself ahead your hook.
