3 ‘Work-From-Home’ Jobs You Should Consider

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Monday?  No I don’t like it…

If you dread Monday mornings simply for the fact that you don’t enjoy getting up early and getting in your car, driving to the office and sitting there in your cubicle for the rest of the week, then you should start giving serious thought to the possibilities of working from home.

There are tons of jobs that you can do right from home, some more unusual than others - the following are a few of the ones that you could seriously think about doing if stepping out on that Monday morning is just something you don’t want to do anymore…

Online Teaching

As the world turns more and more to the power of the Internet on a daily basis it only makes sense that more and more lessons are taught through your computer.  Today you can teach a class from one side of the world while being firmly placed on the other side, from the comfort of your home.

Distance learning courses that can obviously make the most of the online teaching capabilities will be looking to use these services the most over the next few year and the market is set for an explosion.

However, think before you venture down this path - if you want to be a teacher then you obviously need the necessary training and education to become one.  However if you want to teach online then you also need to have a firm grasp of computer skills and you should be fully versed in the technical aspect of the job.

Massage Therapist

This job isn’t obviously for everyone - not everyone you get as a client will heave beautiful, blemish-free skin that is begging to be rubbed.  You’ll get some old, hairy wrinkly, spot-filled skin on your table too.

If you can get past the “skin-deep” issues of the job then perhaps it’s right down your alley.  You can find at job at a hospital, spa or assisted living home but more importantly people will come to your house for a massage!

Personal Fitness Trainer

If you have found that you can motivate people at the drop of a hat and get them to do things they thought they didn’t want to do then you’re either an evil dictator or you could have a successful job as a personal fitness trainer.  I suggest you go for the latter…

You can use your powers for good by getting them to exercise and learn more about how their bodies work.  Teach them how to get healthy and stay healthy and they will pay you in return - most of the time they will pay you handsomely.  Again, although you can go to gyms to find work, you can also work from the comfort of your home!

How To Become A Leader In Your Office!

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Are you a sheep or a wolf?

A lot of people are satisfied taking orders and doing their duties to the best of their abilities - for others this is torture.  Others like these dream everyday about being in control and taking the lead in the office - well don’t worry…your dreams aren’t as far away as you’d think…

You might not have the “Director” label on your desk just yet, but that doesn’t mean you can’t position yourself as a strong leader in your office already - follow these simple yet powerful steps and make your boss start worrying about his/her own job…

One Step Further

In large offices there is the obvious possibility that you will just get lost amongst a sea of names and faces - don’t let this happen because if it does you could get comfortable and be there forever.

Break away from the normal duties your job entails and distinguish yourself as a strong worker who deserves and can handle more.  Take on new challenges and assignments and get a better understanding of how the business works in the process.

Start small and don’t find yourself out of your comfort zone and then work your way up from there.  The more you prove yourself to your bosses the more work they will entrust in you and the more you will get noticed.

Be The Best!

Be the person that people come to for information and plant your position in the office as the person who can help with feedback and opinions - be the person that people seek out for help and you won’t go far wrong.

But if you aren’t there already you will need to look into developing your expertise into a certain area of the business - it might take a fair bit of time and effort but this will pay off eventually when people start understanding that you are the person in the know and people start spreading the word about your expertise and knowledge.

Listen

You can’t lead if you don’t know what those beneath you are saying - you need to listen to lead!  Just because you one day find yourself in a position of power doesn’t mean you know everything that needs to be know…President’s and Prime Minister’s don’t run countries without advisers.

When talking to co-workers listen intently and be aware - don’t be fake as people will see straight through you.  Be interested and take everything on-board and you will find out that everyone has a good view point.

What makes a good leader?

People may be natural born leaders, but most people don’t always know what makes a good leader.  Don’t expect to go from sheep to wolf over night and don’t expect to know everything that needs to be known to be a leader overnight.

Spend time understanding what it takes to be a leader and try hard to get what you want!  Let us know if this advice has helped you or if you have other advice that you could pass on for potential leaders!

5 Signs You’re Losing Your Job

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Will you still be in a job by the summer?

Let’s be honest - the economic times aren’t exactly reinforcing us with confidence when it comes to employment.  With over 2 million left out in the cold without a job you can’t help but wonder if you were indeed next to face the axe…

But don’t panic just yet - for all you know you don’t have anything to worry about but if you are having a bit of a hysterical attack worrying about your job then read on to discover what signs you should be keeping your eyes peeled for;

Out Of The Loop

If you’re finding that you’re suddenly the last one in the office to find out the latest news then you might be on the way out.  If you’ve stopped being consulted or included in decisions regarding your work then you should start re-printing your CVs.

Struggling Market

Companies that are thriving won’t be keen to take the recession as an opportunity to get rid of employees so if you’re in this position then take a relaxing breath because you are probably safe.  If, on the other hand, your business is struggling to stay afloat through the recession then you had better start making contingency plans.

Smaller Budgets

Before turning to making redundancies, your company may start cutting back on expenses - although this is great news for you because you’ll still be in a job, it’s also bad news because you may be next at the cutting board.  However don’t run to the job centre just yet because a smaller budget doesn’t mean the company will move on to employees next.

Explaining Your Work

If the upper echelons are starting to take a bit of an interest in how you do your work, how far along you are and basically what they would need to know if you were to leave next week then perhaps your job isn’t entirely secure.  If the guys at the top are planning to get rid of you they’ll want to know what has to happen when you vacate your position.

No Work

This is probably the biggest sign that you won’t be one with employment much longer - if your workload goes from heavy to feather in the same week then you can be pretty sure that you aren’t going to be staying with the business much longer.  If anything a lighter workload can mean your business isn’t getting much work thrown their way which means they aren’t going to be able to afford to keep you on - the other possibility is your employers are slowly delegating your jobs to other people…bad times!

No Work All Play?

Are you worried about your job?  Have you noticed a few of these signs at your own job?  The biggest thing to remember is not to panic - whatever happens it’s not the end of the world and recessions don’t last forever!
