Spring - The Jobs That Don’t Need To Worry

Spring is most definitely here - the sun is shining, the barbeques are out and we’re all getting sunburnt once again…but when the weekend is over do you really want to head back to the office to sit in your little cubicle away from the spring atmosphere where you can’t stop worrying about whether you’re going to get fired because of the recession?

Instead why don’t you check out these ideas for some spring time jobs that you should be thinking about if the thought of getting back into that cubicle is just too much to manage…

Florist

Flowers are great things, aren’t they?  They can be beautiful and small great…the spring is a great time for flowers as the weather is perfect for them and as people are walking around they are seeing the flowers blooming all around them and they are even more inclined to take a trip to the florist to buy some flowers for their houses or partners.

Florists will be enjoying a booming service through the spring months so if you want to be around nature while still bringing in the money this is the job for you.  Flowers will not bow down to recession woes…

Housekeeper

As the name suggests, this is the time for spring-cleaning!  When the sun is shining you have an urge to have a clean house - however most people can’t actually be bothered to do it…they’ll want to hire someone else to do it…

If you want a ton of extra work through the spring months then this is what you should be doing.  If anything cleaning can be a great de-stresser and the money can be great.  The thing to remember though is that the demand is there right now!

Fashion Buyer

Spring and fashion go hand in hand…and if you love shopping then perhaps this is your dream job?  Fashion buyers go around buying clothes - most women would kill for a job like this.  In the spring months, jobs like these are in bloom!

Get a job where you spend your time looking for dresses and skirts, belts and boots rather than typing up press releases and calculating finances.

Landscaping Worker

The gardens are going from brown to green as the sun starts to show more and more of it’s bright yellow face.  What better job could you have than being in a position to control how these gardens grow over the next few months - if ever there was a time and need for landscape workers then this would be the season!

6 Plant Truths You Should Be Aware Of In The Springtime

Friday, May 8th, 2009

The sun has got its hat on…

It’s that time of the year where we need to start getting out of the house and getting stuck in to our gardens.  Spring is here and while the sun is getting used to appearing once again we have to take the opportunity to make the most of the good weather.

However when it comes to gardening everyone seems to have an opinion - but not everyone can’t be right!  Let’s take a look at some of the gardening myths that tend to trip us up…

Look Beyond The Flower

Many people judge a flower by how beautiful it looks without thinking about its potential for the rest of the year.  When buying flowers you need to think of the whole plant, not just the flower part, so think about the leaves and structure involved.  Including foliage will keep the plant looking exciting throughout the rest of the year.

Don’t Skimp

People seem to buy too little of one kind of flower thinking that they will have enough.  In fact you should avoid doing this as it will make the garden look messy.  Buying more types of the same flower will be a great way to give your garden more of a purpose and a design.

Un-Healthy Leaves

When buying plants some people think that un-healthy leaves are a good indication of a potentially good plant.  This is absolutely not the case - the leaves reflect the health of the plan and when you buy discoloured, diseased leaves you are buying un-healthy plants.  You should be on the look out for full-coloured, vivacious plants that beam health!

Root of the Problem

Stay away from plants that are challenged in the root department.  You can see what’s going on with the roots by checking whether the roots are breaking out through the bottom of the container.  This is a really bad sign which will lead to the roots suffocating and stopping the plants getting the nutrition they need.

It’s All In The Label

Don’t avoid looking and reading the label sticking out of the pot - it contains useful information that you should acquaint yourself with if you want to give your plants a good healthy life style.  The tags will tell you about how much light, food and water requirements that the plants need - without this information you’ll just be taking random stabs in the dark.

Space

When buying plants for your garden you need to be sure of the space you will be working in.  It’s a good idea to take a picture of your garden which you can take with you when you’re buying your plants.  There is nothing worse than over or under buying for your garden because then you will work around the problem and end up without your desired look.

Men Can Do It Too! - Do Your Partner A Favour and Learn How To Spring Clean…

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Believe me…men can do Spring cleaning too!

Just because we are men doesn’t mean that we can’t give a helping hand around the house now and again – in fact we could even go as far as to surprise our partners when they get home from an afternoon of heavy shopping!  Why not – they’ll love you for doing something for both of you and you’ll reap the benefits…everyone’s a winner!

But where do we start?  Don’t worry, read on to find out exactly how we can surprise our partners by whipping out the feather duster and doing some Spring cleaning!

1.    Start in the garage – If you want somewhere to start then start in the garage.  Sort out what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of and then use the space when you’re going through the rest of the house.  Then when you’re done you can know what to take to the charity shops, sell, throw away or keep!

2.    Have a storage system in place – You need to be able to keep whatever you aren’t getting rid of in a tidy and organised way.  By being tidy and organised now you aren’t going to get messy again for a while!

3.    Garden furniture – It’s that time of the year that you need to dust off and take out the garden furniture so you can start enjoying barbeques in the coming sun!

4.    Winter clothes – Pack away your Winter clothes but while you’re doing that give them a check and sort out if there are any that you don’t want to keep hold of.  If there aren’t any that you feel like keeping hold of then put them aside and either sell them or give them to a charity shop…don’t put them away if you’re never going to wear them again!

5.    Winter bedding – Before you put the Winter bedding away you must make sure that it is all clear.  It’s going to be stored away for months and months and if it’s dirty then it’s going to be a pretty unpleasant experience when it comes to opening the bag that they are in when the Winter weather hits again!

6.    Windows – Clean and treat your windows making sure everything looks good.  Take a Hoover to them and get rid of any dust and dirt that has been building up since last Spring!

7.    Vacuum – Get your vacuum into every nook and cranny, lift furniture move tables and make sure you clean everything – don’t be afraid to move things around…you need to get that Hoover everywhere and you’re not going to be able to do so unless you flex your muscles and get that Hoover under everything.

Remember to give every aspect of the clean 100 per cent and don’t disappoint your partner otherwise you’ll never hear the end of it.  Put the effort in and you’ll be loved for weeks!

Spring’s Coming - Get Into Shape…

Spring exercise tips…

It’s pretty tough trying to motivate yourself to get fit when the snow is coming down fast and thick.  But now the excuses have to go straight out the window because Spring is going to give you the chance to get out there and allow you to start on the path to a healthy and fit lifestyle.

Take your time – Don’t go all out on the weekend and destroy your body and then do nothing through the week.  You won’t be doing your body any favours but instead you’ll be doing yourself an injury, quickly.

Instead of storming away the hours in the gym over the weekend and then doing nothing through the week you should be aiming to do around 3 or 4 days a week on alternate days to make sure that your body will cope with the dramatic change from couch potato.

Keep your eye on your exertion – It is important to keep your eyes on the intensity levels of your work out wherever possible.  Start small and build it up over time rather than heading in to a harsh workout that you won’t want to do a day or two down the line.

Don’t rush – It’s definitely a good idea to increase your training over time, but you’ll do damage if you increase your training to rapidly.  Build it up, but do it slowly.

If you build up your training by more than 10 per cent each week then you’ll seriously be increasing your risk of injury so remember to increase your training slowly.

Regain your fitness – After a lazy winter it could take you up to 6 weeks to regain your fitness from Autumn.  Don’t rush it but instead start slow because your body just won’t be up for it.

If you feel that you have to do some “all-out” training then you must allow at least 48 hours between sessions to allow your body to regain its strength.

Training programme – You need to organise a training programme if you want to regain a previous level of fitness and you need to be able to stick to it.  It’s a good way of knowing exactly what your doing and will also be a good motivation tool.

Give yourself a chance – Don’t expect your fitness levels to be at the same level that they were before you decided to take the Winter off.  It’s going to take time to build it back up and you have to have a little faith a will power to make it happen.

Don’t worry about time because there are plenty of months to come of nice weather where you’ll be able to enjoy the outdoors – if you could run for an hour before the Winter then work back up to that standard…if you just rush into it you’ll do yourself an injury.

What about you?
