It’s nice to hear that people are trying to combat the soaring fuel prices. Dorset mechanic Andy Saunders has converted a 1098 Suzuki Wagon in to a more economic version of, off road fuel eater, the Hummer.

The hummer, made famous by celebrities like David Beckham and various rappers over the years, is the latest victim of rising fuel prices with General Motors scaling down there production.

Mr Saunders wanted something that looked as cool as a Hummer, but at a fraction of the price.

He said: “What is the point of having something which only does 12mpg when you can have something that looks just as cool and does 60mpg?“I really wouldn’t want to be driving a Hummer. You would just be throwing your salary away but if you can have something with the same attitude and the same look, this is the answer - the credit crunch Hummer.”Mr Saunders took the “old people carrier” and added custom built steel panels to achieve the look of the iconic SUV, which was designed around the army’s Humvee personal troop transporter, and a favorite of Sean Connery: when he steals it of a German guy in the film, The Rock.

The creation, which Mr Saunders has dubbed the Alchemist – “because it’s a complete transformation” – took over 300 hours to build and cost him £3,500 on parts.

Ou’d think after all that effort he’d want to keep it, but instead its going up for auction at Battersea Park in London on the 29th October, where its expecteded to fetch £15,000.
