Pete Doherty Shambles?

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Proving that once again the legal system plays favorites with celebrities, troubled rock star Pete Doherty has been released early from his 14 week stay at Wormwood Scrubs prison.

??Leaving the prison at 7:10am this morning Doherty was looking forward to the quiet life after apparently beating his drug habit. ?Buzzing? after his release the Babyshambles frontman said, ?I feel great ? I?ve walked out and I don?t feel like I want to score?I feel like I want to go for a nice walk in the park instead.?

?The singer found the medical facilities difficult as he started his sentence. ?Well, I knew it was going to be a bit rough to start with?, he said, ?with the overcrowding and the medical facilities. Although the do their best ? they are god, they can?t really cater for the average junkie?.

?He added, when asked what the worst part of being in jail was he joked, ?Gangsters and Radio 4?.

?Doherty showed off his prison diary that he had kept, complete with letters from fans, drawings and written diary entries. Borrowing a phone from a reporter to call his managers he jumped in a car with popular music?s ?friend in a high place? NME magazine to get a lift home.

?So is this just another case of a celebrity getting away with murder? What?s it going to take to keep this guy in jail? The answer is sadly unknown. Maybe if Pete was unmasked, in a Scooby Doo style, to be Osama Bin Laden he might be incarcerated for good.

?In 2003-2004 it cost the UK ?27, 320 per prisoner per year. If you were to look at the case of Pete Doherty?s 29 day stint you?re looking at a total of ?2.170 not to mention the massive amount of time consumed by the courts, police and any one else involved in bringing him in. It?s nice to know your tax money?s well spent huh?

?All I can really say is ?hats off? to Pete?s Management Company. They really know how to get their special guy to the front of every newspaper each day thus keeping him in the public eye but come on people, do you really want to see some greasy haired, spotty mess of a human being whilst you have your breakfast.

Why Is Heather Mills Still Allowed On TV?

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Heather Mills (Yawn, Yawn...)Am I only person in the world who is wondering why on earth the TV channels in the UK and US are still giving Heather Mills any airtime? Have we not had enough of her venom, her tears and her stories?

Let us face facts, for a very short marriage Heather Mills walked away with over ?20 million pounds and some how she has stayed out of court, with many suspecting that she may very soon be up on contempt of court charges. Has this lady got no shame, aside from what actually happened in the marriage to Sir Paul McCartney, is she not happy with her settlement, can she not let it all pass over her for the sake of her daughter?

Apart from the fact that nobody really knows that went on in their marriage, the more of a dignified silence that Sir Paul McCartney keeps, the more the public will think better of him ? does Heather Mills not realise this?

The problem now is that Heather Mills has money and she will take action against anybody who dares to cross her, whether this is friend or foe. Even her father, from whom she is estranged, has asked her to keep a dignified silence but for some reason she always seems to know best. Her outburst towards the end of last week about her ex-husbands ?girlfriends? smacked of a lady who is bitter and jealous, and not someone who had just won a ?20 plus settlement which she said she was happy with.

Life goes on, marriages fail, but why are we still giving her the time of day on our TV screens? She has been on GMTV at least 3 times, and while the story was once hot news it is all getting a little boring. Ms Mills, sit back, count your money and write a book if you feel bitter about the past for there are a growing number of us who just don?t care anymore. You had your 15 minutes of fame, but that has long past its sell-by date…….

The Poor State of TV

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

You do not realise how much rubbish there is on television until you are restricted to watching the four main channels BBC 1&2, ITV and Channel 4. When you break it down your viewing is news, soaps, reality programmes, talent shows, sports highlights or endless repeats.

I struggle to comprehend how many people actually consider that reality shows like Big Brother, Celebrity Get Me out of Here etc. are good viewing. Are we fast becoming a nation that thrives on watching has been performers, bad mannered and foul mouthed second raters for entertainment, or in just that our own standards have dropped so far that these shows are considered compulsive viewing?

When it comes to programmes like Dragons Den or X Factor are we developing into a culture that believes that instant fame and fortune is the be all and end all, or is it not considered that for every success there are probably 500-1000 failures who will end up distraught and possibly suicidal by not succeeding. You just have to look at the number of entrants in these programmes to realise the success/failure ratio, then look at the number of people who have achieved overnight stardom only to fall by the wayside very shortly after.

When we look at soaps, are we honestly expected to believe that these reflect real life? If these programmes represent today?s society we are surely back in the prehistoric times when all man had to do was look after himself and f? everybody else. Come to think of it that it exactly where we are today, a culture that has no respect for anything, no respect for other people or their property, no respect for rules and regulations, no respect for other peoples feelings, no respect for the rights of other people, everything is always somebody else?s fault, the list is endless.

Having said all of the above it was refreshing to watch the World Darts Championships on the TV last week, guys from ordinary backgrounds plying their skills against one another to become a world champion. A sport (or pastime as some may have it) where there are no overpaid prima donnas, no arguing with or trying to cheat the referee, participants who accept losing in the same grace as winning, respect for their opponents, crowds that appreciate both contestants not booing or jeering the one they are not supporting. A sport where the prize money is pretty meagre compared to football, golf or tennis, but a sport that exhibits a very high standard of skill in both accuracy and mental awareness, a sport that portrays the ability of the individual totally alone in the spotlight unable to disappear or hide amongst the team if things are not going according to plan, a sport that still contains a high level of enjoyment. If some of today?s so called sporting superstars watched darts it may be possible they could learn a thing or two about behaviour and how to conduct themselves.

It also may be possible that today?s society could learn from darts, learn that respect carries an awful lot of weight with your fellow human being, learn that it is not always someone else?s fault but maybe yours, learn that today you may lose but tomorrow may possibly be your day, learn that enjoyment needs to be a large part of what you do otherwise you need to consider is it worth doing.

One Banana… Two Banana.. Three Banana… Four!

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

Amy Winehouse was recently spotted running across London with a bunch of bananas. The troubled Rehab singer was reported as having an action packed evening all over town.

She started the night off by being picked up by a chauffeur driven car outside of her hotel. After stopping off for some fruit on the way Amy then called in at a pub in Camden for a few drinks. Leaving the pub at 2 am she then decided to go for a few more at the Bngalow8 nightclub. There she met Mark Ronson the English music producer and partied until 4 am.

After a trip back to her hotel Winehouse decided to have a run around with her bunch of bananas before calling it a night and heading off for bed.

Amy Winehouse has been gaining much media attention since her rise to stardom. She has a few funny claims to fame such as being number two in Richard Blackwell’s ?Ten Worst Dressed Women? list.

Earlier this month she lost her signature beehive wig and dyed her hair peroxide blonde. I’m sure this upset a few of her fans who had bought dozens of beehive wigs from Ebay.com. Impressively Amy Winehouse was the 5th most searched star on eBay in 2007 resulting in 16,052 sales.

I wonder if her new ?Amy Winehouse iPod Skin? will be popular with the eBay crowd this year? Only time will tell…
